Available in China and Europe, ZTE aims to bring its latest 5G phone status to $ 300 or less.
Today, Axon ($138 on Amazon) 11 5G is launched in Germany and will be available in China and other countries in Europe and the Middle East. But its manufacturer, ZTE, is also eyeing the phone's US launch early next year. If it arrives, the device will likely have some of its hardware rolled into it, though in its current state, the Axon 11 5G serves as a reliable preview of the kind of affordable 5G phone we'd expect from ZTE in the US can do.
The company is aiming to sell the device for US carriers under $ 300. Converted from the Chinese Yuan, the current cost of the device is $ 382, £ 305 and AU $ 557 (6GB RAM / 128GB) and $ 424, £ 338 and AU $ 619 (8GB RAM / 256GB). The ZTE also has a 4G variant of the phone.'
With its slim bezels, an answer-notch camera, and a sleek finish, the Axon 11 5G has a premium look that relies on its potential $ 300 price tag. Its generous 6.47-inch AMOLED display has 1080p resolution and also features an in-display fingerprint reader for user authentication.
Looking at the photos, I like the red accent color for the phone's power button and the fact of texting the buttons. It reminds me of a cross between the shiny power button on Google's Pixel phone and the toggle keys for sound on the OnePlus phone.
The ZTE Axon 11 has four rear cameras at the rear. The setup includes a 48-megapixel standard camera, an 8-megapixel wide-angle shooter, a depth-sensing camera, and a macro camera (both 2 megapixels). The front has a 20-megapixel camera.
We won't know how these cameras fare until we put our hands on the review unit, but the four cameras are relatively impressive given how cheap this phone is. We're also seeing a lot of macro cameras in budget phones (including the Moto G Power ($ 250 at Motorola) and the Galaxy A51 ($ 325 at Amazon)), so it makes sense that ZTE is also involved in the trend itself.
Powering the device is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset and a large-sized 4,000mAh battery.
With this type of specs and price range, the Exxon 11 5G will compete with the Galaxy A51, which also has a 4,000mAh battery, four cameras and a 1080p (6.5-inch) display. Given Samsung's brand recognition in the US, ZTE has a tough hill to climb. But one notable thing is in the name of the phone - 5G. While the 4G version of the Galaxy A51 is readily available, but not the 5G model, ZTE expects US carriers to have an Exxon 11 with 5G at launch.
